Hello

Wed Jul 16, 2008, 7:19 PM
About three years ago I went to Italy and spent two weeks in Rome. At one point I ended up in the Villa Borghese, and came upon some of Bernini's best works. If you don't know who Bernini is, be sure to check him out. He is likely the best sculptor of all time, with over 800 truly amazing works to his name. The moment that I saw his sculpture of Hades and Persephone, tears came to my eyes. It appeared truly alive, as if the two gods had been frozen into stone in the space between breaths. I came back to the states and started to learn how to sculpt. I don't get to do it as often as I like; mechanical engineering coursework really devours one's free time, but art is a part of who I am, so I always come back to it.

Your work is very good. I'm going to put a ~watch on you.

I look forward to seeing more.

I've done very little sculpture in my life but, I always enjoyed what I did do. Being able to express your minds eye with your hands is a treasured skill.

Here's an artist that might interest you. I've been watching him for a while now. Another sculptor, like yourself.

Thank you- for the compliment and the link; I saw the actual Belvedere Torso, and he did a great job copying it.

Yes, he's very good. You are too. I admire the amount of patience it must take to sculpt such large pieces.

I particularly like that he goes into the woods and carves things into random stone sides. Leaving a legacy for the next generation to marvel at.

How long have you been sculpting?

About two years, on and off; though I've only done nine or ten pieces- school keeps getting in the way. After I modeled for a portraiture workshop I decided to give it a try- loved it.

I'll have to try that some time- I should be doing some carving this coming summer.

No reason specifically- It just felt like the time to show some of my work.
